Remember when I said that there is an exception
to every rule in the resume business? Well, here’s another one.
In most cases, resumes should be concise and limited to one or two
pages at the most. You will carefully select your information to
provide a synopsis. In the professions, however, a much longer resume
is expected and the longer the resume, the better your chances of
getting an interview. Those industries generally include medicine,
law, education, science, and media (television, film, etc.). If
you are applying for a job in a foreign country, long resumes with
more detail and a considerable amount of personal information are
the norm.

Such a professional resume is called a curriculum
vita (CV) from the Latin meaning “course of one’s life.” For those
of us who have trouble knowing how to spell the word, vita is singular
and vitae is plural.

A successful CV will include not only education
and experience but also publications (books, magazines, journals,
and other media), certifications, licenses, grants, professional
affiliations, awards, honors, presentations, and/or courses taught.
Anything relevant to your industry is appropriate to use on a CV,
and the resume can be as long as it needs to be to present the “course
of your life.”

A CV–or any resume with multiple pages for that
matter–must contain a header with your name and page number on
each successive page. Should the pages become separated, the reader
should be able to easily put your subsequent pages in their proper
order and with your resume!

These will be
in perfect working condition but will show normal wear from frequent usage
over several seasons. Will have natural scratches, pop up marks and/or
minor bag wear but will perform just as true as a Good or Very Good club.
These are great clubs for those who are looking for performance and value
and not as concerned with cosmetics.

Grip: Always
a high quality Callaway Golf grip.
Shaft: Graphics
may be worn off in places and paint may have worn away. Shafts
are still in perfect working condition and have been checked
to ensure they maintain the proper flexibility.
Face: Grooves
will have typical wear from frequent play and nicks that will
not affect playability. Paint-fill in grooves may be worn or
missing in places.
Sole: Typical
scratches from heavy use but no imperfections that will affect
performance. Such scratches are common on polished soles with
most Callaway Golf painted woods. Paint may be missing in areas.
Top/Crown: May
have ball marks or pop-up marks where the paint meets the crown.
Paint chips more prevalent in areas from rubbing against other
clubs in the bag but no dents or damage that will affect performance.

Classic Gray woods are between four to 14 years old, so they will show signs
of wear on the face and sole or other cosmetic blemishes. The clearcoat
has likely worn off in several spots and the paint-fill may be missing
in areas. These clubs are a great value for those who are looking for
performance and not as concerned with cosmetics.

a high quality Callaway Golf grip.
Shaft: Signs
of wear and the paint and graphics may have faded in areas.
Bag wear may be visible but will not affect playability. Shafts
are still in perfect working condition and have been checked
to ensure they maintain the proper flexibility.
Face: Clearcoat
is worn away on the majority of the face from ball strikes and
paint-fill in the grooves may be missing in some areas.
Sole: Heavy
scratches from years of play. Scratches are not deep and will
not affect performance. Paint-fill may be missing in places.

condition, but will have several cosmetic imperfections such as nicks
and dings from banging around in bag, face wear and paint-fills missing.
Length, loft and lie have been checked to ensure they are still up to
factory original specifications.

Shaft: Paint-fill
and graphics have faded in most areas. No heavy bag wear that
will affect playability. Shafts are still in perfect working
condition and have been checked to ensure they maintain the

will show wear from ball strikes along with some ordinary scratches
and nicks. The face is worn but not abused and will still perform
as good as new.
Sole: Normal
scratches and wear consistent with heavy use but no dents or
damage that will affect the weight or structural integrity of

We spin ourselves all the time-to find a date or a mate, to make
a good impression on our elders, to join a club or society. Spinning
merely involves presenting those aspects of ourselves that are likely
to be appealing to others. It is not enough to come off this way
or that way. You take control of the message you convey to the interviewer.
The clearer the spin, the sharper is the appeal.

All you must do, then, is figure out how to use your self-knowledge
and company knowledge to market yourself. Skip the tag line, but
do formulate a coherent message about yourself. This is the message
that you want to reemphasize throughout the interview as you answer
a variety of questions. Using the information that you gathered
from the exercises in Know Yourself, make a list of your transferable
skills, your inherent qualities, and your personality traits that
would be relevant to this job.

Take a careful look at your list to determine
which of the skills and qualities seem most relevant to the position
you are seeking. For the consultant position that Suzanne is seeking,
client relations and quality assurance practices seem most relevant
from the experience-based skills category. Each of the skill from
the transferable skills category is relevant, so she chooses to
emphasize negotiation, problem-solving, project management, and
writing. She anticipates that the personal qualities required for
this position include creativity, dependability, initiative, and

Generate concise anecdotes.

Once you have
created a short-list of skills and qualities that you offer the
company, compile a set of stories and facts that illustrate your
unique abilities. When doing so, remember a few guidelines:

  • Your goal is to convince the interviewer that you are right
    for the job.
  • Be specific.
  • Highlight information readily understood as transferable.
  • Accentuate accomplishments.
